Hunger and Poverty Alleviation

MV4NY is dedicated to reducing food insecurity and hunger across NYC. We help struggling and at risk families through a variety of different initiatives including food drives and donations, clothing and product drives, and volunteering events. MV4NY partners with the New York Common Pantry (NYCP) as a Sponsoring Organization, with the West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH) and Citymeals on Wheels. We conduct annual food drives for these organizations, provide family friendly opportunities to pack produce at NYCP, and deliver hot meals to home-bound seniors through Citymeals on Wheels. We also conduct card-making drives for Citymeals on Wheels. We provide halal meals to Citymeals on Wheels to be delivered to home-bound seniors on special occasions. We partner with Pajama Program and Room to Grow to organize pajama and book drives to provide clothing and basic amenities for struggling families.

Environmental Stewardship

MV4NY is a Partnering Steward  of Ruppert Park in the Yorkville neighborhood of Manhattan. We host semi-annual stewardship days to beautify and clean the park in partnership with New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and Partnership for Parks (PFP). We provide opportunities for the community to nurture their green spaces through planting activities to sustain and enhance the foliage and the beauty of the Park, as well engaging in eco-friendly arts and crafts. We also host summer events including concerts and child-friendly activities to engage our neighbors and the community.

Health, Wellness & Community

One of MV4NY’s inaugural initiatives was hosting an Eid dinner at Ronald McDonald House New York (RMH NYC), a facility providing temporary lodging for families of children with cancer. Today this popular multicultural, festive dinner is enjoyed by residents of all faiths. Over time the initiative evolved to include service of monthly Halal dinners for families of all faiths.

Education

MV4NY is committed to engaging in projects that support education and service learning. We organize a combination of book drives, volunteering initiatives, and various special events. We network with public and private schools throughout the city to engage students in a variety of service learning activities and curate volunteering opportunities for professionals. MV4NY volunteers support Project Cicero  annually. In 2016 MV4NY helped establish a library at a Title 1 School on the Upper West Side of Manhattan (PS 191) by donating over 10,000 books in collaboration with other city schools. We encourage hands on learning through donating musical instruments to Education Through Music and by sponsoring teaching gardens at public schools. In 2017 we also co-sponsored the first Eid-ul Fitr celebration  at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, an event attended by over 750 people.
